Candle making dates back to early America, and was created mainly as a necessity for light. Today we enjoy watching the flickering light from our candle, and are relaxed by the soothing aroma that fills the room. My desire to create candles began years ago when we had our cabin "Up North." Our neighbor raised bees, which consequently lead to my interest in the bee hive and all its natural contents. My task began by melting the pieces of bee hive in a pot of water. After the wax cooled, I was amazed to find a thick layer of golden colored wax floating on the top. The air was filled with this great honey scented aroma. A new hobby was born. Candle making supplies were hard to come by, and that necessitated some creative thinking and lots of trial by error. I documented my success, and began my quest for unique supplies that could be utilized for molds. The books that were available required you to purchase expensive molds to complete you candle project. My book shows you that you can utilize supplies for molds that you probably already have around your house, or you can find what you need at a garage sale. In this book each step-by-step instruction is written so that any novice can be successful with each of my 29 candle projects. I encourage each of you to be creative by using your own ideas for molds, not just limit yourself to my ideas. You will find that you will now look at jars, cans, or cups dreaming of how they can be used as a mold. Cathy's Candles will teach you to "Create Candles by Reusing & Recycling." Through this book I hope to inspire people to explore the joys and rewards of candle making and to keep the tradition of candle making alive!
